City of Lights First Annual Awards Dinner a Success!

First off, a warm and hearty thank you to all of the bicycle, immigrant rights, and social justice communities and volunteers that turned out for our dinner last Thursday! We honored Councilman Ed Reyes, Raul Añorve, IDEPSCA Executive Director, and two day laborer center coordinators, Jose Veliz and Ernesto Vázquez for their hard work and contributions to keeping City of Lights vibrant and equitable. What a great turnout-we had roughly 80 in attendance, lovely food, courtesy of Advantage Catering, large Silent and Live Auctions and raised quite a bit of money! This is truly important in order to keep City of Lights sustainable, as well as retaining the ability to keep focused on our work on the ground in the community, based off of their needs.

Chef Jeff's Watermelon Shooters

I thought I would share one of my popular soup dishes.  This is usually on my menu for the summer but It is good anytime.  This dish is great for a part where you want to come down from a lot of drinks or ad some Vodka to kick it up.  Also just as a nice virgin cocktail at your picnic. or as a smooth soup shooter.  If you try this please let me know how you used it and what happened.

Watermelon Shooters

4 cups diced seedless watermelon (about 3 pounds)

1 cup diced tomatillos (about 2 tomatillos)

1 1/2 tablespoons diced jalapeño (about 1 small jalapeno, seeded)

3 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Zest of 1 lime

1/2 teaspoon salt

Pinch cayenne

1 lime, thinly sliced, and each slice quartered, for garnish

Optional Additions: 1/2 Cup of good Vodka in the food processor Special equipment: 2 dozen 2-ounce shot glasses or cordial glasses

Put the watermelon, tomatillos, jalapeño, lime juice, lime zest, salt, and cayenne into a food processor, working in batches if necessary. Process until the mixture is smooth. Chill well before serving, at least 1 hour and up to 1 day. To serve, pour the gazpacho into shot glasses and garnish with a lime slice.
Yield: 20-24 shooters

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Can be made 1 day before.

The 4th is coming sooner then you think

Summer is the perfect time for July 4th patriotism and fountain fun with cirque style floating spheres. No water? They are equally charming when land based. Customize the look and costumes to fit your event.
